Homage to HDG A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
His Divine Grace A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder Acharya of ISKCON is a prominent figure in the history of Gaudiya Vaishnavism in disseminating the loving mission of Lord Chaitanya all over the world. It was his Gurudeva, HDG Srila Prabhupada Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakura, the founder Acharya of the entire Gaudiya society, who instructed him to broadcast Lord Chaitanya’s message to the English-speaking countries of the world when they first met in 1922. He was a householder at the time, but Guru vakya (the word of the guru) as we know from the shastras (scriptures), carries a lot of weight and it always bears fruits.
When he first received his Guru’s instruction, it was only a bud in his heart and with time it gradually blossomed to its full potential, and miraculously thirty-two years after, Swami Prabhupada went out to the western world and propagated the loving message of Lord Chaitanya. The message spread quickly through the distribution of his books, which were eventually translated into many different languages, and through Harinama Sankirtan on the streets of famous cities. He also established many preaching centers and temples around the globe, which have attracted millions from all walks of life to the path of Krishna Consciousness.
Sripad Madan Mohan Das Adhikari, my maternal grandfather and the godbrother of Swami Prabhupada use to describe the personality and the glories of Swami Prabhupada’sto me. My grandfather would always glorify all of his godbrothers, but he had a special loving affection towards Swami Prabhupada and his disciples.
I remember how once a few of his disciples visited my grandfather and how my grandfather with great affection and in the mood of spreading the loving mission of Srila Prabhupada Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakura, gave them many books and magazines from his libraries, such as the Gaudiya(weekly magazine), the Dainik Nadiya Prakash(daily newsletter) and the Harmonist. Although I never had an opportunity to personally associate with Swami Maharaja, through my travels around the world, in almost every country and every city I had visited, I got to see and experience Swami Prabhupada’s glories, through his temples, his disciples, grand disciples, and great grand disciples.
Srila Swami Prabhupada has been an inspiration to many, including me. Several years ago, inspired by his mission and his desire to establish a library to preserve our Vaishnava literature and on the request of HG Hari SauriDas Prabhu, HH Srila Radhanath Swami, and HG PranavaDas Prabhu from Sweden, I donated about 2500 Vaishnava books in their original versions to the Bhaktivedanta Research Centre in Kolkata. I donated the books in the spirit and in hopes of bridging whatever gaps that exist between ISKCON and the Gaudiya Math. Another moment of inspiration for me, was when I heard that Swami Prabhupada once expressed his desire to unite ISKCON and the Gaudiya Math Toh Srila Jayapataka and that he had also delegate such precious service to Maharaja. I heard this from Srila Jayapataka Swami when he once spoke in public. I was very happy to hear this from Maharaja since uniting the Gaudiya Vaishnava world, has also been one of my most cherished desires. Working together as one, we will surely achieve greater success in our attempts in pleasing the Parampara. Although we know that Srila Swami Prabhupada has made some negative comments against the Gaudiya Math but before his passing, he revealed the true intentions of his heart, and with great regret, he sincerely apologized to his godbrothers for the things that he had said.
After Swami Prabhupada left this world, with the aim of fulfilling his desire to unite the two families, the BhaktivedantaSwami Charity Trust was inaugurated, so that ISKCON and Gaudiya Math members could work together in restoring the holy Dham. In another attempt to expand the desire of SrliaBhaktivedanta Swami, in 1994, the (SVGA) SaraswataGaudiya Vaishnava Association was created, so that the two families could join forces and work together in planning festivals and other celebrated Vaishnava events. It is clear that it was one of Srila Swami Prabhupada’s last desires before departing from this world that he wanted us to stand united and not divided, which is the mood of Lord Chaitanya.
My spiritual master HDG Srila Bhakti Pramode Puri Goswami Thakura has also glorified Swami Prabhupada on many occasions for his service in expanding Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s mission. Some devotees once approached my Gurudeva, complaining about the big, beautiful gardens that ISKCON had created in Mayapura, not understanding the aim behind such extravagance in the Dham. My spiritual master explained that we should see that these gardens belong to Krishna and that such extravagance had a place in the realm of preaching, and it is required to attract the minds and hearts of materialistic persons. In this way, my spiritual master managed to pacify the mind of these devotees and at the same time indirectly praised the glories of his dear godbrother.
Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada is one of the most valuable treasures of this Gaudiya Sampradaya. Whoever is connected to Lord Chaitanya’s mission, should feel indebted to Swami Prabhupada and through his example, should realize the value of the true nature of preaching. By such realization, one will receive the mercy of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, which will eventually grant us the ultimate spiritual goal of becoming the servant of the Divine Couple, Sri Sri Radha Krishna, and entrance to Their divine abode, Goloka Vrindavan.

पूज्यपाद श्रील ए.सी. भक्तिवेदांत स्वामी प्रभुपाद के श्रीचरणों में श्रद्धाजंली
इस्कॉन के संस्थापकाचार्य पूज्यपाद श्रील ए.सी. भक्तिवेदांत स्वामी प्रभुपाद गौड़ीय वैष्णव इतिहास में एक प्रसिद्ध व्यक्तित्व हैं जिन्होंने सम्पूर्ण विश्व में भगवान चैतन्य महाप्रभु के मिशन का प्रचार किया है। सम्पूर्ण गौड़ीय सोसाइटी के संस्थापकाचार्य तथा उनके गुरुदेव पूज्यपाद श्रील भक्ति सिद्धांत सरस्वती ठाकुर प्रभुपाद ने सन् 1922 में प्रथम भेंट में ही उन्हें अंग्रेजी भाषी देशों में भगवान चैतन्य के संदेश का प्रचार करने का निर्देश दे दिया था। उस समय वे एक गृहस्थ थे, लेकिन शास्त्रों का कथन है कि गुरु वाक्य अति प्रबल होता है और निश्चित ही फलित होता है।
जब उन्हें अपने गुरुदेव से यह निर्देश मिला था तब वह उनके हृदय में केवल एक अंकुर था, किंतु धीरे-धीरे वह एक पुष्प के रूप में खिल गया और चमत्कारिक रूप से 43 वर्ष पश्चात् स्वामी महाराज प्रभुपाद भगवान चैतन्य महाप्रभु के प्रेम संदेश का प्रचार करने पाश्चात्य जगत में गए। उनकी पुस्तकों के वितरण एवं प्रमुख शहरों की सड़कों पर हरिनाम संकीर्तन के माध्यम से महाप्रभु का संदेश तेज़ी से चारों ओर प्रकाशित होने लगा। अंततः उनकी पुस्तकों का भी अनेक भाषाओं में अनुवाद हुआ। उन्होंने पूरी पृथ्वी पर अनेक प्रचार केन्द्रों और मंदिरों की स्थापना की है जिसने सभी क्षेत्र के लोगों को कृष्णभावनामृत के पथ पर आकर्षित किया है।
प्रभुपाद के गुरुभाई एवं मेरे नाना श्रीपाद मदनमोहन दास अधिकारी मुझे स्वामी प्रभुपाद के व्यक्तित्व एवं उनकी विशेषताओं के विषय में बताते थे। मेरे नानाजी अपने सभी गुरुभाईयों का सदैव गुणगान करते थे किन्तु स्वामी प्रभुपाद एवं उनके शिष्यों से उन्हें विशेष स्नेह था।
मुझे याद है एक बार श्रील स्वामी प्रभुपाद के कुछ शिष्य मेरे नानाजी से मिलने आये थे और उन्होंने उन शिष्यों को अपार स्नेह करते हुए श्रील भक्ति सिद्धांत सरस्वती प्रभुपाद के प्रेम संदेश के प्रचार भाव से उन्हें अपनी लाईब्रेरी से अनेक पुस्तकें और पत्रिकाएँ (मैगजीन) भेंट की जैसे ‘गौड़ीय (साप्ताहिक पत्रिका)’ दैनिक नदिया प्रकाश एवं हार्मोनिस्ट इत्यादि। यद्यपि मैं व्यक्तिगत रूप से स्वामी महाराज प्रभुपाद से कभी भी नहीं मिला लेकिन मैं विश्व में जहाँ भी गया हूँ वहाँ प्रत्येक देश एवं प्रत्येक शहर में मैंने स्वामी महाराज प्रभुपाद द्वारा स्थापित मंदिरों, उनके शिष्यों, प्रशिष्यों आदि के माध्यम से उनकी (स्वामी प्रभुपाद) की महिमा का अनुभव किया है।
श्रील स्वामी प्रभुपाद अनेक लोगों के प्रेरणा स्त्रोत हैं और साथ ही मेरे लिए भी। उनके मिशन से प्रेरित होकर एवं उनकी वैष्णव साहित्य को संरक्षित करने के उद्देश्य से लाईब्रेरी की स्थापना की इच्छा से मैंने श्री हरिसौरीदास प्रभु, श्री राधानाथ स्वामी महाराज एवं श्री प्रणवदास प्रभु (स्वीडन) के निवेदन पर कुछ वर्ष पूर्व कोलकाता में भक्तिवेदांत रिसर्च सेंटर को लगभग 2500 वैष्णव पुस्तकें (उनके मूल स्वरूप में) भेंट की। मैंने यह पुस्तकें इस्कॉन एवं गौड़ीय मठ के मध्य दूरी को पाटने के प्रयास एवं आशा से भेंट की हैं। मेरे लिए यह बात भी अत्यंत प्रेरणादायक रही जब मुझे पता चला कि श्रील स्वामी प्रभुपाद जयपताका स्वामी महाराज के समक्ष इस्कॉनएवं गौड़ीय मठ को एकीकरण करने की अभिलाषा प्रकट की थी और श्रील स्वामी प्रभुपाद ने यह महत्वपूर्ण कार्य करने का निर्देश श्रील जयपताका स्वामी महाराज को दिया था। मैंने यह श्रील जयपताका स्वामी महाराज से उनकी सार्वजनिक सभा में सुना था। मुझे यह सुनकर अत्यंत प्रसन्नता हुई थी क्योंकि सम्पूर्ण गौड़ीय वैष्णव समाज का एकीकरण मेरी भी हार्दिक अभिलाषा है। एकसाथ मिलकर कार्य करने से हम निश्चित रूप से परंपरा को प्रसन्न करने के प्रयास में और अधिक सफल हो सकेंगे। यद्यपि हम जानते हैं कि श्रील स्वामी प्रभुपाद ने गौड़ीय मठ के विषय में कुछ नकारात्मक बातें कही थीं किंतु उन्होंने अप्रकट होने से पूर्व अपने हृदय की वास्तविक इच्छाएँ प्रकट की और अत्यंत खेद प्रकट करते हुए उन्होंने अपने गुरुभाइयों से उनके लिए कहे गए वचनों के लिए उन्होंने क्षमा याचना की।
श्रील स्वामी प्रभुपाद के अप्रकट होने के पश्चात् दोनों परिवारों को एकजुट करने के लिए भक्तिवेदान्त स्वामी चैरिटी ट्रस्ट की स्थापना की गई थी ताकि इस्कॉनऔर गौड़ीय मठ के सदस्य तीर्थधाम के विकास के लिए मिलकर कार्य कर सकें। श्रील भक्तिवेदांत स्वामी महाराज प्रभुपाद की इच्छा को आगे बढ़ाते हुए सन् 1994 में सारस्वत गौड़ीय वैष्णव एसोसिऐशन की भी स्थापना की गई ताकि दोनों परिवार मिलकर वैष्णव त्यौहारों एवं उत्सवों की योजनाएँ बना सकें। इस जगत से जाने से पूर्व श्रील स्वामी प्रभुपाद की अंतिम इच्छाओं से यह स्पष्ट है कि वे यही चाहते थे कि हम सब एकजुट रहें, विभाजित नहीं, यही भगवान चैतन्य महाप्रभु का भाव है।
मेरे गुरुदेव पूज्यपाद श्रील भक्तिप्रमोद पुरी गोस्वामी ठाकुर ने भी श्रील स्वामी प्रभुपाद द्वारा भगवान चैतन्य महाप्रभु के मिशन के विस्तार में की गई सेवाओं के लिए अनेक अवसरों पर उनका गुणगान किया है। एकबार कुछ भक्तों ने मेरे गुरुदेव से इस्कॉनद्वारा मायापुर में विशाल और सुन्दर बगीचा बनाए जाने के विषय में शिकायत की। वे भक्त धाम में किये गये विपुल व्यय के पीछे के उद्देश्य को नहीं समझ पा रहे थे। मेरे गुरुदेव ने उन्हें समझाया कि हमें ऐसा मानना चाहिए कि ऐसे सुन्दर बाग-बगीचे श्रीकृष्ण के ही हैं और प्रचार कार्यों में ऐसे विपुल व्यय का अपना एक स्थान है। भौतिकवादी व्यक्तियों के मन और हृदयों को आकर्षित करने के लिए इनकी आवश्यकता है। इस प्रकार मेरे गुरुदेव ने उन भक्तों के मन को शांत किया और अप्रत्यक्ष रूप से अपने गुरुभाई की महिमा का गुणगान किया।
श्रील भक्तिवेदांत स्वामी महाराज प्रभुपाद गौड़ीय सम्प्रदाय की अतिमहत्वपूर्ण निधियों में से एक हैं। जो भी व्यक्ति भगवान चैतन्य के मिशन से जुड़ा है उसे स्वयं को स्वामी महाराज प्रभुपाद का ऋणी मानना चाहिए एवं उनके उदाहरण से प्रचार की वास्तविक भावना के महत्व को समझना चाहिए। ऐसा समझने से हमें भगवान चैतन्य महाप्रभु की कृपा प्राप्त होगी और अंत में हम अपने आध्यात्मिक जीवन का परम लक्ष्य श्रीश्री राधाकृष्ण दिव्य युगल के सेवक बनकर दिव्य धाम गोलोक वृन्दावन प्राप्त कर सकेंगे।
